How long will it be before he adds a bracelet to his seven medals?
Apolo Ohno has been grabbing the public’s attention for years now. Whether it’s winning Olympic speed skating medals in Torino or Vancouver or coming out on top of Dancing With the Stars, it seems like everything he does excites the American public’s imagination.
He might excite a few people in the poker world, too, after a Twitter question-and-answer session with fans that Ohno held yesterday. User @AB1004 asked Ohno if he had a hidden talent that would shock or amuse people. The seven-time medalist replied, “I'm a hustler on the poker table and roulette calls my name lol!” The statement was short on details but it’s a sure thing that someone will try to pry more information out of Ohno sooner or later - and maybe even give him an invite to come play at the World Series of Poker.
Apolo Ohno is far from being the only American Olympian to enjoy a game of poker from time to time. In fact, he isn’t even the only US speed skater who plays - his teenage speed skating teammate J.R. Celski says he is a part-time poker player. Other current Winter Olympians known to play include ice dancer Ben Agosto, snowboarder Hannah Teter and figure skater Evan Lysacek. And of course there’s always 14-time gold medalist Michael Phelps, who is becoming well known not only for his enthusiasm for the game but also the skill with which he plays.
