We completely understand why ESPN would choose the first-ever WSOP Champions Invitational to be one of the four 2009 WSOP tournaments that they covered this year. With a field composed of nothing but poker players who own a WSOP Main Event bracelet, how could the Final Table be anything but exciting?

The action starts at 8p.m. ET tonight with a pretty interesting final table including: Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, Carlos Mortenson, Robert Varkonyi, Jim Bechtel, Berry Johnston, Tom McEvoy and Huck Seed.

For those of you who didn’t follow the WSOP when it was happening live, we don’t want to spoil anything by revealing too much about it, but we will say this, the final three aren’t exactly dynamos of poker excitement. Good guys perhaps, but will they make for exciting TV? We’re a little skeptical. But then again, sometimes good poker itself is entertainment enough.

While you need one to get in, the WSOP Champion Invitational isn’t a bracelet event. The winner received a 1970 Corvette Stingray and the Binion’s Cup in honor of Jack Binion, the man credited with making the WSOP the richest poker tournament in the world.

For upcoming ESPN WSOP coverage we’ve got the complete 2009 WSOP TV schedule for your perusal.
