Matt "AllInAt420" Stout leads the Harrah's Tunica WSOP Circuit Championship Event.
Once upon a time Tunica and the WSOP Circuit were both pretty major players on the tournament scene. But times change and neither the upper Mississippi gambling town, which has lost its January business to Australia and the Bahamas in recent years, nor the Circuit, which has been overshadowed by other tours, has had a lot to cheer about lately.
Still the game goes on, and with the first of three scheduled days done the $5,150 WSOP Circuit Championship Event at Harrah's Tunica is already down to just 35 players from its all-time low starting field of 96. Running the show as Day 2 begins will be New Jersey pro Matt "AllInAt420" Stout, who's stacked at 116,300 chips. Stout entered the final table of this event last year with an overwhelming chip lead but fell short of the title in third place despite his tough, smart play. Kai Landry eventually prevailed over David Dao to take home the top prize of $183,974.
Joining Stout tomorrow in the hunt for the final table are a number of players who have a realistic shot at winning the tournament. 2006 WSOP Main Event runner-up Paul Wasicka sits in seventh place with 82,200 chips, while two-time WSOP Circuit ring winner Dwyte Pilgrim (13th, 65,200) and 2009 EPT Barcelona champ Carter Phillips (30th, 31,000) lurk further back. They'll all be back in action playing down to the final table at noon today, with the last man standing taking home a gold WSOP Circuit ring and a couple of bucks to boot.
